49ers' Willis sidelined early vs. Rams with hamstring injury

No matter how you cut it, the sight of linebacker Patrick Willis leaving the field with any type of injury is bad news for the San Francisco 49ers.

Willis spent the second half of Sunday's win over the St. Louis Rams on the sideline in street clothes after he had to be helped off the field during the first quarter of  with a right hamstring injury. The injury is not considered to be serious and Willis will undergo an MRI exam on Monday, according to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

"We'll see where that is over the next couple of days," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said at his postgame news conference.

According to the report, Willis left the 49ers' locker room without any difficulty.

Willis was injured while attempting to make an open-field tackle, and immediately clutched at the back of his right leg. He had to be helped off the field by two medical personnel and was brought to the 49ers' bench. He was initially listed as doubtful to return.

Larry Grant replaced Willis at inside linebacker.
