Aaron Rodgers wants to throw to Davante Adams more

Davante Adams sits as one of the few go-to No. 1 targets without an obvious second fiddle. The man who tosses the receiver the ball would like to force-feed his top receiver even more.

"I'd like to throw to Davante more. He's that open," Rodgers said this week, via the Associated Press.

Rodgers targeted Adams 169 times in 2018, second-most in the NFL, just one fewer than Julio Jones received.

In a reversal of norms, it's the quarterback wanting to throw the ball more to one receiver, not the pass-catcher demanding the dang ball.

"We've got to keep finding ways to get him the ball," Rogers said. "There's nothing wrong with having a go-to guy who's that dynamic and trying to find ways to get him the ball."

Adams is one of the best receivers in the NFL, with impeccable route-running skills, deep speed and vice-grip hands. He has a case as the top receiver getting off the line of scrimmage in the entire league.

The lack of a proven running-mate might also be a reason Rodgers plans to target Adams a ton in 2019. Behind Adams sit Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown, Geronimo Allison, Trevor Davis, J'Mon Moore and a bevy of other unproven talents. Tight end Jimmy Graham is also coming off a disappointing season as a pass-catcher.

Rodgers couldn't even get through dishing out compliments to the complementary pieces without turning his attention right back to Adams.

"I think obviously we need complementary pieces in place," Rodgers said. "I think Marquez has had a fantastic spring and really stepped up as a guy who can be an every-down player, and then I expect a big bounce-back year from Jimmy. He's healthy, he's feeling good. This offense, I think fits him and his body type, but I'm not going to shy away from throwing the ball to Davante."

With Matt LaFleur's offense promising to be more creative in how it gets receivers open, one of the young wideouts could emerge as a consistent second option. If none does, Rodgers will have no qualms about giving Adams 200 targets.
