Training camps are set to open next week, which means it's time for veteran wideout Anquan Boldin to find a team for the 2017 season.
Boldin is scheduled to visit Buffalo on Monday, the team announced.
With precious little experience behind No. 1 target Sammy Watkins, the Bills could certainly use a slot receiver of Boldin's caliber. The trio of Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin and Justin Hunter left Buffalo in free agency.
The fit is rather curious from the perspective of Boldin, however. Set to turn 37 years old in early October, his preference is to sign with a contender close to his family in southern Florida, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this offseason.
The 15-year veteran may well have been interested in joining one of the NFL's three Florida outfits, but the Dolphins (Jarvis Landry), Jaguars (Allen Hurns) and Buccaneers (Adam Humphries) are all set in the slot.
No longer a major threat after the catch or on the perimeter, Boldin averaged a league-low 8.7 yards on 67 receptions with the Lions last season. He still proved useful, however, hauling in 76.1 percent of his targets as a reliable possession receiver and red-zone threat.
We should know by late next week if the Bills have company in pursuing the 15-year veteran.
