Bears to honor Virginia Halas McCaskey with jersey patch, Steve McMichael with helmet decal in 2025

The Chicago Bears will be honoring two franchise legends on their game-day apparel this season.

Chicago announced on Friday that it will be sporting a jersey patch honoring late team owner and matriarch Virginia Halas McCaskey throughout the 2025 campaign.

McCaskey, who died on Feb. 2 at the age of 102, will have her initials displayed prominently on the left breastplate of the Bears' jerseys, starting with next week's preseason opener against the Dolphins. The patch is a near-identical design to the one Chicago wore during the 1983 season when Hall of Famer George Halas, Bears founder and McCaskey's father, died.

"We thought it would be appropriate if her patch mirrored her dad's from 1983," team owner George McCaskey, son of Virginia, told the team's website. "So it's the same size, the same color combination. The only thing that's different, of course, is the initials. We thought that was the right thing to do."

The Bears will also honor Virginia Halas McCaskey by not wearing alternate or throwback jerseys during the 2025 season.

Chicago will similarly honor the late Hall of Fame defensive tackle Steve McMichael with a football-shaped helmet decal.

McMichael, who died on April 23 after a bout with ALS, will be remembered by his No. 76 displayed on the back of Bears players' helmets. The logo honoring the Super Bowl XX champion will also be featured on the Soldier Field grass for all home games.

"We wanted to have the decal, and we'll also have a field stencil at every home game this season," George McCaskey said. "This is the 40th anniversary of our Super Bowl team, so we want to properly acknowledge and honor Steve at that celebration."
