Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah's 2025 season officially is over.
The Cleveland Browns placed the linebacker on the reserve/physically unable to perform list on Monday, which rules him out for the entire 2025 campaign.
Owusu-Koramoah has not played since suffering a serious neck injury in Cleveland's Week 8 win over Baltimore last year, an injury that required a backboard and a cart to transport him from the field to the locker room, plus an overnight hospital stay.
"Jeremiah's health is of the utmost importance to us and although he has made progress towards recovery, we've made the decision to place him on Reserve/PUP, which means he will not play football during the 2025 season," Browns general manager Andrew Berry said in a statement on Monday. "Jeremiah has the full support of our team, and we expect him to continue to be a part of the organization even though he will not return to the field this year.
"We will not make any predictions on Jeremiah's football future at this time, but we do note that he's in good spirits and will continue to take the advice of the world-class medical experts who will continue to guide his progress and recovery."
A second-round pick out of Notre Dame in the 2021 draft, Owusu-Koramoah has proven himself as a remarkably athletic and versatile linebacker capable of playing on all three downs, earning his first Pro Bowl nod in 2023. Entering April's draft, he was the lone significant draft investment the team had made at the position since Berry took over in 2020.
The Browns have remained tight-lipped regarding Owusu-Koramoah's status and long-term outlook, and while they quickly claimed their selection of UCLA linebacker Carson Schwesinger with the 33rd pick of the 2025 draft was more about the player's talents than JOK's situation, the two certainly aren't unrelated.
Cleveland's roster move Monday suggests Owusu-Koramoah still has quite a long road back to the field if he returns at all. Schwesinger will help replace him in the short term, but plenty remains to be determined regarding Owusu-Koramoah's future beyond 2025.
"I'm grateful to the Browns organization for their full support, and to the world-class doctors guiding me through recovery," Owusu-Koramoah said in a Monday statement. "While I won't suit up this season, I'm focused on what I can control -- my healing, my mindset, and my faith. The body may rest, but the calling never sleeps. I've given my heart to this game. I don't know what's next, but I'll continue trusting my medical team, serving the community, and backing my brothers on the field."
