Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield dislocated his right thumb late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Vikings, head coach Todd Bowles said.
Bowles told reporters Mayfield will undergo an MRI on Monday and added that X-rays did not show a fracture.
Mayfield suffered the injury when he was hit by Minnesota linebacker Blake Cashman on a fourth-down play when the Bucs were trailing, 20-16.
Mayfield's right hand appeared to hit Cashman while he attempting a pass, which was intercepted by Andrew Van Ginkel. The veteran quarterback immediately fell to the turf at Raymond James Stadium, holding his hand in clear discomfort.
He eventually made his way to the sideline and locker room with the Tampa Bay training staff.
Mayfield agreed to a three-year, $165 million extension on the eve of the regular season, but he struggled through the first two games of the campaign and was off again on Sunday prior to exiting due to the injury.
Mayfield was 17 of 34 for 217 yards with a touchdown and an interception when he left the game.
Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels replaced Mayfield for the Bucs' final possession.
