Buccaneers trading veteran guard Shaq Mason to Texans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers found a trade partner for Shaq Mason.

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday that the Bucs are trading the veteran guard to the Houston Texans, per a source informed of the swap.

The deal is a late-round pick-swap, with the Bucs receiving a sixth-rounder and the Texans getting a seventh-rounder back along with Mason, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport added.

Tampa planned to cut Mason ahead of the new league year but instead will get a bit of compensation back. The cap-strapped Bucs save $5.272 million by dealing Mason.

The Bucs acquired Mason last year for a fifth-round pick in a deal with the New England Patriots.

Texans general manager Nick Caserio is very familiar Mason from their time together in Foxborough. It's a stellar move for Houston, adding a veteran blocker under a reasonable contract who has started 115 career games. The trade boosts Houston's offensive line in front of a potential rookie QB.
