Eagles trade Cam Jurgens, 2027 seventh-round pick to Ravens for '27 fifth-rounder, '28 second-rounder

The Ravens are throwing more resources at their center conundrum.

Baltimore has acquired Cam Jurgens in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, sending a 2027 fifth-round selection and a 2028 second-round pick to Philadelphia for the Nebraska product. The Ravens are also receiving a 2027 seventh-round pick in the deal, the teams announced Wednesday.

Jurgens arrived to Philadelphia as a second-round pick in 2022 and the chosen successor to franchise legend Jason Kelce, who assisted general manager Howie Roseman in the pre-draft scouting process for the position and identified Jurgens as his ideal replacement. Jurgens had to wait until Kelce retired after the 2023 season to step into the first-string role, starting 16 games in 2024 and earning a Pro Bowl nod, the first of two (he returned to the Pro Bowl in 2025).

Despite an ideal fit and time to acclimate, Jurgens' promise never quite matched his production. He started strong, ranking in the upper half among his counterparts in 2024, per Pro Football Focus, and signed a four-year, $68 million extension in 2025, but battled health challenges that required surgery that offseason.

In 2026, an injury to guard Landon Dickerson prompted coach Nick Sirianni to slide Jurgens over to replace Dickerson, producing nightmarish results that included a second-to-last PFF grade through four weeks.

Jurgens wasn't the lone culprit amid Philadelphia's offensive line challenges, which also included right tackle Lane Johnson's Week 4 absence and surprise retirement on Tuesday. The Eagles' willingness to part with Jurgens signals they'd rather move in a different direction, though, ending an experiment that began with promise in 2022 and fizzled by 2026.

Baltimore has been desperate for help at the pivot since Tyler Linderbaum left for Las Vegas in free agency. Veteran Danny Pinter began camp as Linderbaum's replacement, but suffered a season-ending injury before the regular season began. Jovaughn Gwyn subsequently rose to the starting role and suffered a fibula fracture that will keep him out for multiple months, and a flier taken on veteran Ethan Pocic -- another experienced center coming off an injury -- failed to stick after Pocic suffered a knee injury.

With all three on injured reserve, the Ravens needed an immediate replacement, dialing Philadelphia to acquire a former Day 2 pick (at a relatively high price) in Jurgens who would have an opportunity to return to center with a team that has serious Super Bowl aspirations.

He'll need to get up to speed quickly, especially with the possibility that he'll be snapping to backup quarterback Tyler Huntley in the coming weeks following Lamar Jackson's ankle injury suffered in Week 4.

Jurgens self-reported concussion symptoms on Monday and is in concussion protocol ahead of Baltimore's Week 5 game against the Falcons.
