Cardinals' Corey Peters (Achilles tear) out for season

The Arizona Cardinals have taken a hit along their defensive line.

Coach Bruce Arians announced Thursday that defensive tackle Corey Peters suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in Wednesday's practice and is out for the year.

Peters, 27, spent his first five seasons with the Falcons before signing a three-year, $10.5 million deal with the Cardinals in March. This is the second major Achilles injury for Peters, who tore the tendon in his right leg late in the 2013 season.

The Cardinals are looking for some stability along their line after losing Darnell Dockett in free agency. Xavier Williams and Alameda Ta'amu are likely to see more work with Peters out.

Read about the rest of Thursday's injury news:

  1. Robert Griffin III went to the ground in an attempt to recover his own fumble and was landed on by mutliple Lions defenders early in the second quarter of a 21-17 victory. Griffin was down for three minutes as he was tended to by team trainers before walking off the field under his own power. After the game, coach Jay Gruden said Griffin suffered a concussion and would undergo concussion protocol. He also described the quarterback's shoulder as "OK."
  1. Bills receiver Marquise Goodwin left the field under his own power in Cleveland after his ankle appeared to get trapped during a tackle, but he returned to the game after a series. Chris Hogan, another Bills receiver, suffered an ankle injury and did not return in the 11-10 win over the Browns.
  1. Eagles linebacker Marcus Smith, the team's first-round pick in 2014, was carted off the field Thursday after tweaking his hamstring, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. Smith will have an MRI on Friday.
  1. Cardinals guard Mike Iupati will undergo surgery to repair his meniscus after suffering a knee injury earlier this week, according to Arians.
  1. Victor Cruz sat out practice Thursday due to a minor calf injury. The injury is in the talented Giants wideout's left leg, not the surgically repaired right knee he injured last season. Cruz said he's doubtful coach Tom Coughlin will let him play Saturday against the Jaguars.
  1. Broncos defensive tackle Marvin Austin was placed on injured reserve Thursday with a groin injury.
  1. Steelers WR David Nelson's shoulder injury could be serious. He is expected to get an MRI this week, per ESPN.

  1. Browns TE Gary Barnidge was taken to the locker room in the second half with an apparent head injury. The team said he passed concussion protocol.
  1. Redskins LB Adam Hayward was helped off the field favoring his right leg late in the first half. He did not return.
