Deion Sanders won't attempt to steer his son, Shedeur Sanders, to a preferred NFL destination.
"Shedeur has told me, he's talked to me intently about all the visits he's had with all the teams, so I know where his heart is, I know where he wants to go," the Colorado coach said in an interview with "The Skip Bayless Show" that was posted this week. "If it's New York, it's New York, if it's Tennessee, if it's Cleveland, if it's still the Raiders, if it's New Orleans, if it's any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I'm happy with it, man. Because I know what he's going to do to the organization."
A year ago, Deion Sanders commented that he could attempt to pull an "Eli" if a dysfunctional club was in line to draft Shedeur. Eli Manning famously said he wouldn't sign with the San Diego Chargers, who selected him No. 1 overall, forcing a trade to the New York Giants.
It was easier for Deion to say such things knowing the 2025 NFL Draft wasn't around the corner. With Shedeur set to potentially be a top-five pick in less than a month, the messaging is different from the Hall of Famer.
Bayless asked if Deion Sanders would attempt to "orchestrate" where Shedeur is drafted.
"No, no, no," he said. "Because that's not God's will right now. I want Shedeur to do what he's consistently done -- excel against all odds. I like the hating, I like the naysaying, I like the ignorance because it makes us feel better about what we do and it gives him another chip on his shoulder."
While scouts differ on how they project Shedeur Sanders' career, he's widely expected to be a first-round selection. He could go as high as No. 2, where the Cleveland Browns have sought an answer to their quarterback quagmire for decades, or No. 3 to New York, who recently signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
