Denard Robinson: I should be Jaguars' No. 1 RB

Denard Robinson currently sits atop the Jacksonville Jaguars' running back depth chart. While the shifty back seems like an obvious candidate to get his gig swiped by an incoming rookie, Robinson doesn't see it that way.

"I think I should be a No. 1 guy," Robinson said, per the Florida Times-Union. "That's how I have to look at it. But I have to show them that. Words don't mean anything. It's all about showing them."

Robinson led the Jags in 2014 with 582 yards on 135 attempts -- second on the list was quarterback Blake Bortles' 419 yards.

The 24-year-old said he's been healthy since February after missing the final three games of the 2014 season. He said having another full offseason at the running back position will pay huge dividends.

"It's big," Robinson said. "I want to show the team they can count on me. Last year, I showed growth so people could say, 'That's not the same Denard. It's night and day.' This year, I want them to say, 'Man, Denard has grown even more.' "

We still view the Jags' backfield as a stockpile of No. 2 options with Robinson, Toby Gerhart and Storm Johnson.

Jacksonville could be in a prime position to snag a running back early on Day 2 of the NFL Draft. However, that possibility doesn't worry Robinson.

"My thing is, I'm going to put my hard hat on every day and come to work," he said. "No matter what they do -- if they draft a running back or they don't, I'll come here and really work."
