The New York Giants have suffered another major injury early in the 2026 season.
Star pass rusher Brian Burns suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s win over Tennessee, coach John Harbaugh said Monday. The injury requires surgery and will knock the three-time Pro Bowler out for the season.
Burns, who was playing through an ankle injury, went down early in the fourth quarter and did not return to Sunday's 12-7 victory over the Titans.
In three games, Burns generated five QB pressures, per Next Gen Stats, including four on Sunday.
The loss of Burns is a big blow to the 2-1 Giants, who were already trying to stay on track in Harbaugh's first season without starting quarterback Jaxson Dart, who was lost in Week 2 to a knee injury.
With Burns out, the Giants will lean on Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux. It will be interesting to see if Big Blue tweaks rookie linebacker Arvell Reese's role as well to help fill the void.
In two weeks, the Giants have lost two massive stars as they attempt to flip the script in the NFC East. New York has a winnable slate ahead, with the 1-2 Cardinals, 1-2 Commanders and 1-2 Saints over the next three weeks.
Harbaugh's job of turning around a team that's lived in the cellar the past two seasons is becoming harder by the week.
