Niners QB Brock Purdy (shoulder/toe) off injury report, set to start vs. Jaguars on Sunday

Asked Thursday if he would play on Sunday, Brock Purdy simply said, "We'll see."

The grin on his face was likely the more forthcoming answer.

After missing the last two games with shoulder and toe injuries, Purdy will return to start for the San Francisco 49ers in their Week 4 tilt against the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced.

Purdy was limited in practice throughout the week, but had no injury designation on Friday.

He'll return against a Jacksonville club boasting a so-far impressive defense ranked fifth in points allowed.

When Purdy was injured in a Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks, it was reported that he would miss two to five weeks. He's returning on the earlier side and the timing is perfect.

Niners backup Mac Jones won both of his starts filling in for Purdy, but he's also dealing with knee injury that earned him a questionable designation heading into the weekend.

Purdy's progressed through the week and is now good to go for Sunday, hoping to emerge unscathed.

The 49ers' injury woes go from one year to the next as Purdy's return will come in their first game this season without Nick Bosa, who's out for the year with a torn ACL. He'll also be without tight end George Kittle, who remains on injured reserve

Purdy's back, though. In the season opener, he had 277 passing yards, two touchdown passes and a pair of interceptions. Minus the turnovers, he'll look to pick up where he left off and keep the 49ers winning despite their injury hiccups.

The 49ers kick off against the Jaguars at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.
