The Los Angeles Rams' chances of acquiring star cornerback Jalen Ramsey could be fading.
Speaking Tuesday from Maui for the team's mandatory minicamp, coach Sean McVay said he wouldn't rule out a trade for the cornerback but noted there are "obstacles" preventing a move.
"Usually, those are scenarios and situations that you have to have plans in place prior to executing some of the decisions that have occurred," McVay said. "Definitely don't want to rule anything out because we're always open-minded to onboarding and acquiring quality players and people like him if we're able to do that, but there would be some obstacles that are real that are in the place of maybe preventing that from occurring."
The totality of McVay's comments on Tuesday paints a pessimistic picture of a trade for the current Dolphins star, who is on the trade block and is expected to be moved this offseason.
The financial compensation could be the biggest obstacle to the Rams -- or any team -- trading for Ramsey. The corner is due to earn $24.3 million this season, and his base salary in 2026, while not guaranteed, jumps to $10 million. His cap number raises significantly in the final three seasons of his contract.
With a deal for Ramsey sounding less likely than in recent weeks, the Rams are set to move forward with starters Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon, and Cobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes, Josh Wallace and the newly re-signed Derion Kendrick battling for reps.
