Ravens plan to hire Anthony Weaver as defensive coordinator

The Ravens are bringing back a familiar face on defense.

Baltimore plans to hire Anthony Weaver as their defensive coordinator, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Monday, per sources.

Weaver, 45, spent four seasons as a player in Baltimore and three more as an assistant coach. He left to take the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator position the past two seasons and interviewed for the Ravens' head-coaching job this offseason after John Harbaugh was fired.

Now, Weaver will join forces with new Ravens head coach Jesse Minter. Although both men spent time on Harbaugh's staffs in Baltimore, this will be the first time they'll work together. Minter was a Ravens assistant on the defensive side from 2017 to 2020 before leaving to join Jim Harbaugh at Michigan, later following him to the Chargers.

In 2024, the Dolphins defense under Weaver ranked in the top 10 in points and yards allowed before sliding back to 24th and 22nd, respectively, in those categories in 2025.

The Ravens defense allowed the fewest points in the NFL in 2023 with Weaver on staff. It remained a good unit in 2024, even while not as statistically dominant, before falling off last season, ranking 18th and 24th, respectively, in points and yards allowed.

Weaver was a second-round pick of the Ravens back in 2002, starting 54 of his 57 games as a defensive end with the club over four seasons. He spent three more seasons playing with the Houston Texans thereafter.

Weaver is Baltimore's second coordinator hire of the past week. The Ravens officially hired former Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle as their new OC on Monday.
