Derrick Henry has settled in next to another Hall of Famer.
Henry's rushing score in Sunday's 44-10 loss to the Houston Texans gave the Baltimore Ravens running back 110 over his illustrious career, tying him with Hall of Famer Walter Payton for fifth all time.
Four weeks prior, Henry scored twice against the Buffalo Bills, breaking a tie with Hall of Famer Jim Brown for fifth in the NFL record books. He scored again in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions, giving him 109 entering Sunday. Against the Bills, Henry had a crucial fumble that soured his historical moment. Likewise, the running back's latest landmark came amid a bitter defeat.
Henry matched Sweetness, as Payton was nicknamed, on a 1-yard score in the third quarter, though that plunge was the only bright spot in a blowout loss that moved Baltimore to 1-4 on the season.
Payton, a career-long Chicago Bear, reached 110 touchdowns in 190 games, while Henry, 31, achieved the mark in 141 with the Tennessee Titans and Ravens.
Now in his 10th NFL season -- two with the Ravens after eight for the Titans -- Henry is closing in on becoming the 17th player to reach 12,000 rushing yards. After Sunday's game, he has 11,740.
A season ago, Henry tied for the league lead with 16 rushing touchdowns. He's finished atop the NFL in rushing scores three times before and could be on his way to another league-leading campaign.
From Nashville to Baltimore, King Henry has reigned and he's not done moving up the record books.
