Roundup: Browns reportedly adding Demetrius Harris

The Cleveland Browns aren't done adding pieces on offense.

Following Tuesday night's trade for Odell Beckham Jr., the Browns are signing ex-Kansas City Chiefs tight end Demetrius Harris to a two-year contract, according to multiple local reporters. ESPN first reported the deal.

Cleveland GM John Dorsey is plenty familiar with the 6-foot-7 Harris from his time in Kansas City. Dorsey signed the undrafted free agent to the practice squad in 2013 and watched Harris grow into a solid rotational player.

A stellar blocking tight end, Harris pairs well with Browns dynamic TE David Njoku. After spending years playing second-fiddle to Pro Bowler Travis Kelce, Harris moves to Cleveland where he'll continue a similar role behind a similarly athletic tight end.

In five seasons on the K.C. roster, Harris participated in 71 games, including 33 starts, compiling 57 receptions for 605 yards and six touchdowns. The big-bodied TE should also play a key special teams role.

Harris provides a stellar pass and run blocker with limited pass-catching ability, but could play a role in the red zone as a big target in two tight-end sets.

The addition of Harris continues the trend of Dorsey bringing his blueprint from the Chiefs to the Brown. The toast of Cleveland has helped construct two of what should be the most dynamic offenses in the NFL in 2019.

The Browns also announced they have re-signed linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong.

Other moves we're monitoring around the league on Wednesday:

  1. The New Orleans Saints are in the market for a tight end and they're scheduled to host the top free agent at that position as NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports Jared Cook is scheduled to visit the Saints on Thursday. Cook is coming off a sensational season for Oakland.
  1. The Chicago Bears have a void to fill at safety and HaHa Clinton-Dix might be their man. Rapoport tweeted that the free agent will visit the Bears on Wednesday night and Thursday. Clinton-Dix finished last season with the Redskins after he was traded from the Packers. Coincidentally, the Packers signed former Bear Adrian Amos, so perhaps Chicago is in line to sign a former Green Bay standout.
  1. The Cincinnati Bengals announced they have re-signed linebacker Preston Brown to a three-year deal. Pelissero reported the contract is worth up to $21 million, per a source. After tying for the NFL lead in tackles in 2017, Brown suffered a season-ending knee injury in November of last season.
  1. The New England Patriots are bringing back receiver Philip Dorsett on a one-year deal, Rapoport reported. They are expected to also bring back defensive end John Simon, Rapoport reports, via sources informed of the situation. Rapoport adds both sides are working on a deal that is expected to be finalized today.

The Pats have also agreed to a two-year deal with special teamer and running back Brandon Bolden, Rapoport added, per sources. Bolden spent last season with the Dolphins after six with New England.

  1. The Redskinsare releasing linebackerZach Brown, Pelissero reported, per a source. The club is also parting ways with defensive lineman Stacy McGee, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported, per a source. Washington shopped both players but were unable to strike a deal on either.

The Redskins did not tender wide receiver Maurice Harris as a restricted free agent, Garafolo reported, adding that the new free agent appears to have interest from a few teams after catching 28 passes for 304 yards in 2018.

  1. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they have re-signed running back Peyton Barber, kicker Cairo Santos and linebacker Kevin Minter to one-year deals. The Bucs released defensive tackle Mitch Unrein with a failed-physical designation.

Tampa Bay agreed to terms with wide receiver Breshad Perriman, who was initially slated to return to the Browns until they traded for Odell Beckham.

  1. The Dallas Cowboys re-signed fullback Jamize Olawale and offensive tackle Cameron Fleming.
  1. The Jacksonville Jaguars are signing guard A.J. Cann to a three-year deal worth just over $15 million, Rapoport reported, via a source. The team later announced it had re-signed Cann.
  1. The Indianapolis Colts are re-signing cornerback Pierre Desir to a three-year contract worth up to $25 million with $12 million guaranteed, Rapoport and Garafolo reported. The club announced they have re-signed special teamer and cornerback Chris Milton to a one-year deal.
  1. The Atlanta Falcons announced they are releasing right tackle Ryan Schraeder with a post-June 1st designation. The move was expected after they locked up to Ty Sambrailo last month to a three-year extension worth up to $18 million.

The Falcons agreed to terms with guards James Carpenter and Jamon Brown.

  1. The Miami Dolphins announced they have released guard Josh Sitton. The veteran lineman missed all but one game in 2018 because of a shoulder injury.
  1. The Kansas City Chiefs released tight end Jermaine Gresham.
  1. The Los Angeles Chargers have re-signed defensive tackle Brandon Mebane.
  1. The New York Jets signed free-agent inside linebacker Neville Hewitt to a one-year deal, Rapoport reported.
  1. The 49ers have re-signed defensive back Jimmie Ward to a one-year, $5 million contract, Rapoport reported.
  1. The Tennessee Titans announced they have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with guard Kevin Pamphile.
  1. The Seattle Seahawks placed the original-round tender (fifth) on restricted free-agent defensive end Quinton Jefferson, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported, via a source.
