Shareece Wright leaves Chargers for 49ers

After watching 2014 starters Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox leave for richer offers, the San Francisco 49ers added a cornerback of their own.

The 49ers announced Saturday that they have signed former Chargers cornerback Shareece Wright to a one-year contract. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported the deal is worth $3 million, with a chance to make $4 million.

Wright, 28 next month, started 27 games for San Diego in the last two years after being selected in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

Primarily an outside corner, Wright hasn't been as strong in coverage as Culliver. In fact, he drew the most pass interference penalties (8) in the league last season.

If Tramaine Brock bounces back from an injury-ravaged 2014 and Dontae Johnson develops, Wright might have a battle on his hands for a starting job in San Francisco.
