Steelers clinch NFL-record 22nd non-losing season in a row; 19th under Mike Tomlin

In the topsy-turvy world of the NFL, there are few constants from year to year.

That does not apply to the Pittsburgh Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin.

Pittsburgh defeated the Detroit Lions, 29-24, on Sunday to improve to 9-6 on the year. In the process, the Steelers set a new NFL record with their 22nd straight non-losing season, with the last 19 coming under Tomlin.

The 22 consecutive non-losing campaigns eclipse the Dallas Cowboys' 21-season run from 1965-1985 under Hall of Famer Tom Landry.

The 53-year-old Tomlin is the league's longest-tenured head coach, having taken the Steelers' reins in 2007, and has yet to experience a losing season, finishing at 8-8 (when the league had 16-game seasons) three times (2012-13, 2019) and recording a winning tally in every other campaign.

Individually, Tomlin has now tied Bill Belichick for the second-longest run without a losing season. Belichick tallied 19 straight from 2001-2019 with the New England Patriots, with Belichick and Tomlin each behind Landry's 21.

For Tomlin, it was also his 200th career coaching win, including playoffs. He's the third-youngest coach to reach the milestone.

Introducing himself to the Steelers tradition, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has now locked up his first winning season since 2021 with the Green Bay Packers. That was also the last time Rodgers was on a team that advanced to the playoffs.

With Sunday's win, the Steelers took a step closer to clinching an AFC North, which would ensure the 12th playoff berth in Tomlin's tenure and the seventh division crown.

Next up for Tomlin's crew is a Week 17 matchup at the Cleveland Browns before a regular-season finale against the second-place Baltimore Ravens.
