The Minnesota Vikings aren't ready to declare if running back Adrian Peterson is fit to return from a high left ankle sprain.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier told reporters Monday that Peterson is making progress, but there was no word yet on his status for Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos. Peterson sustained some ligament damage in the ankle and sat out all three days of practice last week before being ruled out Saturday.
The Vikings, however, exited their 24-14 loss at Atlanta with several more injury concerns.
Frazier said long-snapper Cullen Loeffler is out 2 to 6 weeks after suffering a back injury, which forced Jared Allen into a relief role for much of the game against the Falcons. Frazier says the Vikings will sign someone to fill in for Loeffler, who broke a bone in his lower back. The team does not want Allen, its star pass rusher with 13.5 sacks, in that role for the long term.
Safety Tyrell Johnson (right hamstring) is "out for a while" with a significant injury, according to Frazier, and cornerback Asher Allen (sprained shoulder) is day to day. Wide receiver Michael Jenkins (knee) is having his injury examined, but it's not clear which knee he injured.
