Dak Prescott
Dallas Cowboys DAL · QB

1) Dak Prescott: The Lone Star at the top of the Cowboys all-time passing leaderboard

Despite missing more than half of his fifth and ninth seasons in the NFL, Dak Prescott still ranks among the league's most prolific passers since he entered the NFL in 2016. His 34,024 career passing yards are the fifth most by any player in that span, behind only Jared Goff, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins and Patrick Mahomes.

Prescott has been steadily climbing the Cowboys all-time passing list every since he earned the starting job in his first season as a fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State. He cleared the first Hall of Fame quarterback on the list – Roger Staubach – in just his sixth season in the NFL.

Earlier this season in Week 6 against the Panthers, Dak Prescott eclipsed Hall of Famer Troy Aikman's 32,942 yards for third on the all-time franchise leaderboard. Now he needs just 160 more to clear the final rung in Cowboys passing history – Tony Romo's current record of 34,024.

Jonathan Taylor
Indianapolis Colts IND · RB

2) Jonathan Taylor can't stop scoring touchdowns

Since entering the NFL in 2020, Jonathan Taylor has racked up 73 scrimmage touchdowns – second only to Derrick Henry's 77 touchdowns in that span. He's found paydirt on the ground 66 times, already breaking Hall of Famer Edgerrin James' Colts franchise record of 64.

Taylor needs a pair of scores from scrimmage to become the fifth player in NFL history to reach 75 career scrimmage touchdowns in fewer than 80 games played. He would join Hall of Famers Jim Brown and LaDainian Tomlinson – each reaching the mark in 72 games – Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith – who did so in 77 games – and Todd Gurley at 78 games as the only players ever to do so.

With two scores on the ground, Taylor can pass Gurley's 67 for fourth-most rushing touchdowns all-time by a player prior to their 27th birthday. Taylor – who doesn't turn 27 years old until Jan. 19, 2026 – would trail only Smith with 96, Tomlinson with 72 and Brown with 70 scores.

Patrick Mahomes
Kansas City Chiefs KC · QB

3) Playoff hopes hanging in the balance. History waiting to be broken.

Even as the Chiefs are in danger of dropping three consecutive games in a season for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs signal caller continues to his ascension up the all-time passing charts.

Since becoming the full-time starter in 2018, his 34,693 passing yards are more than 2,000 yards ahead of anyone else in the NFL, and when you add in the 284 yards from his 2017 rookie campaign as the backup to Alex Smith, he's on the doorstep of 35,000 for his career.

Mahomes has played in 122 career games, and with just 23 more yards through the air in Week 12, he will become the fastest player in NFL history to reach 35,000 career yards. Matthew Stafford – the current record holder at 126 games – is the only other player all-time to reach the mark in fewer than 130 games played.

Trey McBride
Arizona Cardinals ARI · TE

4) Death. Taxes. Trey McBride catching the football.

Trey McBride's production out of the tight end spot has been unmatched in 2025. He leads the position group with 71 receptions – no other tight end has more than 60 – 781 receiving yards – no others have more than 650 – and is tied for the lead with seven receiving touchdowns.

McBride has caught a touchdown in each of his last five games, and if he snags another score in Week 12 against the Jaguars, he'll join 2024 Mark Andrews and 2011 Rob Gronkowski as the only tight ends in NFL history with a receiving touchdown in six straight games within a season.

Additionally, if he hauls in at least five passes, McBride would join Travis Kelce – who did so in 15 straight games in 2018 – and Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez – 13 straight games from 2008-09, as the only three tight ends ever with at least five catches in 12 or more consecutive games. Doubling that output, a 10-catch performance would vault McBride past Jimmy Graham's 301 receptions for the most ever by a tight end through their first four career seasons.

Baker Mayfield
Tampa Bay Buccaneers TB · QB
Matthew Stafford
Los Angeles Rams LAR · QB

5) Baker Mayfield and Matthew Stafford: Keeping some legendary quarterback company

At age 37, Matthew Stafford is making his best run at an MVP of his career. He owns a six-touchdown lead over the rest of the NFL with 27 passing touchdowns in 2025, and with just two interceptions, he trails only Jalen Hurts' 16-1 mark in pass touchdown to interception ratio.

With at least three passing touchdowns and no more than two interceptions on Sunday Night Football, he can become the fourth player (sixth instance) to ever have at least 30 touchdown passes and fewer than five interceptions in their team's first 11 games of a season.

He would join Aaron Rodgers – reaching those marks in his 2007, 2011 and 2020 MVP seasons – Tom Brady in his 2007 MVP season and Patrick Mahomes in 2020 when he finished behind the aforementioned 2020 Rodgers season.

Staring down Stafford on the opposite sideline, Baker Mayfield has his own chance to move past NFL royalty. Mayfield has had 16 games in a Buccaneer uniform with multiple touchdown passes and no interceptions, and his five such games in 2025 are second only to Stafford's six.

With another such performance on Sunday Night Football, Mayfield can break a tie with Tom Brady for the most games with multiple passing touchdowns and no interceptions in Buccaneers franchise history.
