Bears QB Caleb Williams suffers hamstring injury in loss to Vikings

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williamsexited Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings after suffering hamstring injury in the fourth quarter.

Williams went down while scrambling on first-and-goal with Chicago trailing 6-3. The QB appeared to be in pain on the field, grabbing at his right leg. Williams had to be helped off the field and was carted from the sideline to the locker room.

Bears head coach Ben Johnson told reporters after the game that he did not have a sense on the severity of the injury.

"We'll know more tomorrow," Johnson said.

Johnson added he had spoken with Williams prior to his postgame news conference and the third-year pro was "in good spirits."

"I'm actually happy it's nothing with the knee," Johnson told reporters. "That was my first inclination, but the hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. We'll see how bad it is tomorrow, and we'll go from there."

One week after exploding for 59 points in a win over the Panthers, Williams and the Bears offense struggled against a stout Vikings defense.

Williams was 15 of 26 for 138 yards with an interception on a rainy day at Soldier Field at the time of the injury, and Chicago proceeded to have a potential game-tying field goal blocked after the drive stalled with Williams out of the game.

Tyson Bagent replaced Williams under center for Chicago and nearly lead the Bears to a comeback, but Bagent was sacked by Dallas Turner on fourth down in the red zone to end the game.

Bagent would be in line to start if Williams missed extended time. Bagnet started four games during the 2023 season, compiling a 2-2 record.
