Broncos, WR Courtland Sutton agree to terms on four-year, $92 million extension

The Denver Broncos reached a long-term extension with receiver Courtland Sutton early in training camp.

The Broncos and Sutton have agreed to terms on a four-year, $92 million extension, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Monday, per sources informed of the situation.

Turning 30 in October, Sutton was set to enter the final year of his revised contract signed in 2024, with a base salary of $13.5 million. Following last year's bounce-back season, the Broncos were confident in locking up Sutton long-term. They got a deal done well in advance of the season.

The $23 million-per-year deal gives the wideout a nice pay bump on his $13.75 million-per-year deal while not breaking the bank at a position with figures skyrocketing in recent years. The pact places him tied for 18th among wide receivers with Calvin Ridley.

In 2024, Sutton generated 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns on a career-high 81 catches. It marked the first year over the 1,000-yard barrier since his breakout 2019 season that ended with a Pro Bowl trip. A 2020 ACL tear in his first game of the season scuffled Sutton's path. However, he's gotten back on track in Sean Payton's offense as the lead dog.

Sutton represents a go-to sideline pass catcher for quarterback Bo Nix. The rest of the Broncos' receiving corps enters 2025 with question marks. Marvin Mims Jr., Troy Franklin, Devaughn Vele and free-agent addition Trent Sherfield are battling for reps. The wild card is rookie Pat Bryant, whom Payton has compared to Michael Thomas.

Ensuring Sutton is around beyond 2025 gives Nix a baseline to grow with.
