Chuck Pagano's headed back to the coaching ranks, and he's doing so in a very familiar spot.
Pagano has been hired as the Baltimore Ravens' senior secondary coach, the team announced Tuesday evening.
Pagano will return to coaching -- which he's been absent from since 2020 when he was the Chicago Bears' defensive coordinator -- and the Ravens sidelines -- which he was part of on John Harbaugh's initial staff from 2008 through 2011.
"It is exciting to add Coach Chuck Pagano to our defensive staff and continue to develop and grow our young and talented secondary," Harbaugh said in a statement released through the team. "Chuck brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and coaching talent to our team. He has deep ties to the program and is excited to get to work."
The 64-year-old Pagano first became an NFL assistant in 2001 as a secondary coach for the Cleveland Browns. He had the same position with the then-Oakland Raiders and finally the Ravens in 2008. He became Baltimore's defensive coordinator in 2011 before taking on the Indianapolis Colts' head coaching job from 2012-2017. He posted a 53-43 record with Indy and most impressively fought through a leukemia diagnosis.
Pagano was out of the NFL for 2018 before joining the Bears from 2019-20.
Now, he's ended his most recent hiatus with a return to Baltimore to help Harbaugh as the reigning AFC North champions resume their Super Bowl quest next season.
