The San Francisco 49ers dumped Deebo Samuel and his contract for a fifth-round pick over the weekend, but the veteran receiver, soon to be with the Washington Commanders, insists he harbors no ill will toward his now-former club.
"49ers know where I stand with them, and it's nothing but love," Samuel shared on social media on Monday night. "Love [general manager] John [Lynch] and [coach] Kyle [Shanahan] to death, no bad blood, no way shape or form. They know I'm more than appreciative of everything they done for me as a player and a man nothing but love."
There appeared to be consternation between Samuel and the club over the last several seasons. The 29-year-old complained about his touches during 2024, and the Niners have reportedly had concerns for a few years.
Given his response to being shipped across the country, Samuel appears willing to let any issues wash away.
Another issue regarding the veteran wideout, who remains a YAC monster but has devolved in other production areas, was his weight in 2024. Samuel admitted to being 10 pounds heavier than his listed figure last season.
"225 to be exact," Samuel wrote on social media. "Can't wait till this season start. Fresh start new Bo."
The wideout is listed at 215, and his conditioning has been a question mark in the past. Last year, Samuel battled pneumonia and injuries that could have led to some added poundage. There was also the question of his motivation. However, that last bit doesn't seem like it will be a problem after the trade.
It's a fresh start for Samuel in D.C. in 2025, and he appears poised to enjoy his new digs.
