Eagles HC Nick Sirianni agrees to multiyear contract extension following Super Bowl win

There's no doubt surrounding Nick Sirianni's status on the Philadelphia Eagles sideline this year.

Sirianni, fresh off piloting the franchise to its second Super Bowl victory, and the Eagles have agreed to terms on a multiyear contract extension, the team announced on Monday.

"As an organization, we have always strived to create a championship culture of sustained success," Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. "Nothing is more important to fostering such an environment than having tremendous leadership. Nick has embodied everything we were looking for in a head coach since we hired him four years ago. His authentic style of leadership, football intelligence, passion for the game, and growth mindset have helped to bring out the best in our team. I am excited for what the future holds for the Philadelphia Eagles."

Under Sirianni, the Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, to win Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9, completing a massive turnabout after a disappointing 2023 campaign that finished with Sirianni's job fate uncertain.

That's hardly the case now. Sirianni's extension was an easy one to predict following Lurie's comments at April's Annual League Meeting in which he said, "I'm sure we'll find out soon enough that Nick will be our coach going forward and he's done an outstanding job."

The Super Bowl LIX win culminated Sirianni's fourth season with the team, two of them ending with Super Bowl berths. The 43-year-old has compiled a 48-20 record in the regular season, including two NFC East titles. His 54 career wins including playoffs are second all time in a coach's first four seasons behind only the San Francisco 49ers' George Siefert, according to NFL Research.

Following three seasons as the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator, Sirianni was hired in 2021 by Lurie and general manager Howie Roseman to replace Doug Pederson as the Eagles' head coach.

In each of Philadelphia's four seasons with Sirianni at the helm, the Eagles have flown to the postseason.

However, it's hardly been all sunshine and rainbows.

Following the team's Super Bowl LVII loss to the Chiefs, Philadelphia began the 2023 season going 10-1. The Eagles crumbled down the stretch, though, backing into the playoffs at 11-6 before they were eliminated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in lopsided fashion, 32-9, in the Wild Card Round.

With the team having fallen into disarray, Sirianni was on the hot seat, but was ultimately retained for 2024.

He and the Eagles clearly responded, running off a 14-3 regular season in 2024 before a postseason run highlighted by three blowout wins in four overall victories.

An animated presence on the sidelines, Sirianni's personality has at times overshadowed the results on the field, but his talent-laden squads have produced more often than not. He's also found success with a revolving door of coordinators. In his Philadelphia tenure, Sirianni has had three full-time offensive coordinators and three full-time defensive coordinators -- three total moved on to become current head coaches. One of those was last season's OC, Kellen Moore, who’s now the New Orleans Saints head coach.

Thus, Sirianni will have his fourth OC on board for 2025, longtime assistant Kevin Patullo.

Sirianni is staying put, though, having quickly become a fixture in the Philadelphia sports world and one of its finest success stories -- his 48 career wins already fourth all time in club chronicle.

It wasn't all that long ago that Sirianni's job seemed to be in jeopardy.

A dominant Super Bowl triumph later and it's signed and sealed that the Eagles have their head coach for the long haul.
