Jayden Daniels will be sidelined for one week at the very least after his latest elbow injury.
Marcus Mariota will start at quarterback in the Washington Commanders' Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Monday.
Daniels underwent imaging Monday after suffering a dislocated left elbow in Sunday's loss in Dallas and will consult with specialists in the coming days, Quinn told reporters.
The third-year QB does not yet have a timeline for return, the Commanders coach added.
Daniels suffered the injury on the final play of the first half of Washington's 37-20 defeat. He stumbled after taking a snap under center and braced himself with his left arm before falling to the turf in obvious pain as his pass attempt fell incomplete.
Medical staff quickly attended to Daniels on the field at AT&T Stadium, and he was eventually carted to the locker room. The Commanders ruled Daniels out after halftime.
This is Daniels' second elbow injury in two years. The former Offensive Rookie of the Year dislocated the same elbow last season in a Week 9 game against Seattle and missed the following three weeks. He aggravated the injury upon his return.
As to whether Washington will change its approach to handling Daniels' injured elbow this time around, Quinn said Monday the team will defer to the specialists.
Quinn added that the team has not yet discussed adding another quarterback to the room behind Mariota and seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis.
Mariota was 11-of-16 passing for 111 yards and a touchdown in relief of Daniels. In 11 games played last season (eight starts), the former No. 2 pick, now 32 years old, completed 61.2% of his passes for 1,695 yards, 10 TDs and seven picks.
Washington (0-2) hosts the Seahawks (2-0) in its home opener next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The Commanders then travel to London to play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4.
Whether Daniels will be on that trip remains to be seen.
Washington's bye comes in Week 7.
