The New England Patriots have locked down Jahlani Tavai for the long haul.
The Pats and the linebacker agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $15 million with a maximum value of $21 million, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday, per sources.

Tavai is coming off his best season as a pro, generating a career-high 110 tackles, two interceptions and a sack in 17 games, including 16 starts, in 2023. The 27-year-old was entering the final year of an extension signed in 2022, set to earn $1.265 million in base salary. The new deal keeps him under contract through the 2027 season.
A former second-round pick by the Lions in 2019, Tavai struggled early in his career, starting 16 games over his first two seasons before being released by Detroit before the 2021 season. The linebacker landed on the Patriots' practice squad -- where Matt Patricia returned after being fired in Detroit -- and was quickly elevated to the roster. From there, Tavai has increased his role and production in Foxborough.
The deal continues the trend of the Patriots locking down their in-house talent this offseason, including running back Rhamondre Stevenson, center David Andrews, offensive tackle Mike Onwenu, edge rusher Josh Uche, defensive tackle Christian Barmore, safety Kyle Dugger, tight end Hunter Henry and others.
