The Saints are diving into the third jersey game for just the second time in franchise history this season.
New Orleans revealed an alternate jersey called "Gameday Golds" on Tuesday.
Throughout their existence, the Saints have only worn white or black jerseys except for one game in 2002: a 32-31 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15 of the 2002 season. On that day -- and amid a wave of new, third jerseys appearing for a number of teams across the NFL -- the Saints took the field in gold helmets, gold jerseys and black pants.
The jersey popped under the Superdome lights, but would be sent back to the mothballs after that game. Twenty-three years later, they return in the form of a Nike top that makes one small change, replacing the gold sleeve cuffs with black cuffs.
It's been a busy offseason in fashion for the Saints, who debuted a white alternate helmet earlier in July that will be worn with their throwback-inspired white color rush uniforms. That helmet's introduction benched the black alternate helmet they'd paired with the all-white alternate uniforms, but the return of the gold jersey gave the black shell new purpose.
New Orleans will pair the black helmet -- which includes a tapered stripe made of tiny fleur-de-lis marks -- with the gold jersey and black pants, marrying black and gold elements to create a satisfying look that deviates from their usual appearance in a tasteful manner.
In total, the Saints will have a wide variety of attire to work with in 2025: Their usual home and road black and white uniforms (with solid white pants, solid black pants and their usual gold pants featuring a wide, black stripe available to mix and match), plus two alternate looks that incorporate white and black helmets.
The team did not reveal when they'll wear the "Gameday Golds" in 2025, but with the NFL relaxing rules to allow more aesthetic variety this season, don't be surprised if these uniforms appear in multiple games.
