Sunday's NFL training camp injury and roster news

The 2020 regular season is just around the corner, and NFL Network has you covered with wall-to-wall training camp coverage each day starting at 10 a.m. ET. Follow along here as we keep up with all the news, injuries and transactions of the day.

  • The Cleveland Browns are aiming to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2002. They'll have a former Super Bowl Most Valuable to possibly aid the cause. Linebacker Malcolm Smith, the Super Bowl XLVIII MVP with the Seahawks, has been signed by the Browns, the team announced Sunday. Smith played last season with the Cowboys and provides depth for the Browns D.

Cleveland Browns cornerback Kevin Johnson, who was released from the hospital Friday after sustaining a lacerated liver, is going through protocol to rejoin the team on Tuesday, Rapoport reported. Johnson will have a two-week span to ramp up before getting liver scans. There is a chance he could miss only a week or two of the season, Rapoport added. In a corresponding move to Smith's signing, center Casey Dunn was waived/injured.

  • New Dallas Cowboys addition Everson Griffen is set for individual drills Sunday at practice, coach Mike McCarthy told the media in a morning press conference. Starting right tackle La'el Collins will be limited in practice, though McCarthy did not specify the tackle's ailments. Cornerback Jourdan Lewis is dealing with an ankle injury and McCarthy does not expect him to practice this week.
  • Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen sat out practice Sunday. Bills GM Brandon Beane previously told reporters that a number of "key players" would sit out Sunday as the Bills are among teams to be affected by false-positive tests from a testing facility.
  • Seattle Seahawks defensive end Branden Jackson was knocked unconscious during the team's practice on Saturday. Though he had movement in all extremities, he was placed on a backboard and transported to a hospital. On Sunday, Rapoport reported Jackson is undergoing tests for a neck injury and to determine the next course of action.
  • Denver Broncos star pass rusher Von Miller returned to practice after missing the past few days with an elbow injury. Running back Melvin Gordon (ribs) remains sidelined.
  • The Chicago Bears announced that receiver Allen Robinson (ankle) and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks (quad) were both held out of practice again as a precaution. The team also mentioned that coach Matt Nagy says there is "no concern" with their injuries.
  • The Washington Football team officially cut wide receiver Cody Latimer. Latimer had been on the Commissioner's Exempt List following an offseason arrest.
  • San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa was not spotted on the field for the start of practice, per ESPN. Bosa was also held out of Saturday's session for what coach Kyle Shanahan terms a "maintenance day."
  • Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn believes rookie defensive lineman Marlon Davidson is likely to miss a couple more days due to a knee strain, the coach said Sunday.
  • Los Angeles Rams running back Darrell Henderson suffered a low-grade hamstring strain, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. There's optimism Henderson will be ready for Week 1.
  • After three days of missed practices, wide receiver N'Keal Harry returned for the New England Patriots on Sunday, NFL Network's Mike Giardi reported.
  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought in a trio of wideouts for visits: Greg Dortch, Shelton Gibson and Spencer Schnell. The team also placed receiver John Franklin III and running back T.J. Logan on the injured reserve list.
  • The Indianapolis Colts announced Sunday that they have signed cornerback Andrew Chachere and center Joey Hunt while also placing offensive tackle Andrew Donnal on injured reserve and that they waived/injured tight end Ian Bunting.
  • Detroit Lions rookie tight end Hunter Bryant sustained a leg injury on Saturday and will be out Sunday as will running back Bo Scarbrough, coach Matt Patricia announced. Patricia also said cornerback Desmond Trufant sitting out is simply maintenance.

Detroit also announced it has signed defensive lineman Will Clarke and released offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch. Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson, who's been dealing with an ankle injury, returned to practice on Sunday.

  • Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt is back at practice for the first time in roughly a week. The team later announced the signings of free-agent linebacker Daren Bates and long snapper Anthony Kukwa. In a corresponding move, the team waived ILB Jan Johnson from the active roster.
  • In order to make room for running back Theo Riddick, the Las Vegas Raiders are releasing former Canadian Football League standout running back William Stanback, Pelissero reported. The team also brought in former XFL quarterback Cardale Jones for a workout and rookie receiver Anthony Ratliff-Williams for a visit, per Rapoport. A fourth-round pick by the Bills in 2016, Jones revitalized his career playing in the now-defunct league; he tallied 674 pass yards, four TDs and seven picks in five games as a starter for the D.C. Defenders.
  • Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross is back at practice on Sunday. Ross left the team to care for his family and returned earlier this week, but had to go through COVID-19 protocols. With Ross back on the active roster, Cincy placed defensive tackle Renell Wren on the reserve/injured list.
  • New York Jets quarterback Joe Flacco, who is coming back from a neck injury that's likely to keep him out for the start of the season, was at practice Sunday throwing on a field to the side. Jets wide receiver Breshad Perriman missed practice Sunday with a knee injury, but coach Adam Gase said he's hopeful for Perriman's return on Monday.
  • The Carolina Panthers on Sunday waived running back Jordan Scarlett in a move that corresponds with kicker/punter Kaare Vedvik passing COVID-19 testing protocols to be added to the 80-man active roster, the team announced.
  • The Philadelphia Eagles had three happy returns to practice on Sunday. Tight end Zach Ertz (upper-body injury) was back along with fellow TE Dallas Goedert, whose hairline thumb fracture was wrapped, and rookie wideout Jaelon Reagor, who was ill on Friday. The team also hosted tight end Tyrone Swoopes, Rapoport reported.
  • The Arizona Cardinals are signing cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, Rapoport reported per a source said, to a one-year deal pending his physical. He's on a visit there after playing the previous eight seasons with the Bengals, most of them as a starter. It will be a reunion for Kirkpatrick with Vance Joseph, who's currently the Cards DC.
  • Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams left practice early on Sunday and will undergo tests on his shoulder after his collarbone checked out fine, Rapoport reported and added there is optimism it is not serious.
