What You Need To Know

1) The Packers made it clear that Jordan Morgan will battle incumbent Rasheed Walker for the left tackle spot during camp. The 2024 first-round pick didn't play a single snap at tackle during his rookie season. He played 185 snaps at guard (right and left) while missing the final nine games of the regular season due to injury. Walker has been solid at left tackle, particularly in pass protection, but has struggled at times in the run game. If Walker wins the gig, Morgan could remain a backup unless he shifts inside and beats out Sean Rhyan for the right guard job -- whom he couldn't unseat a year ago. With Elgton Jenkins sliding over to center, stalwart right tackle Zach Tom, and free agent addition Aaron Banks at left guard, three of the five spots in front of Jordan Love are spoken for. How the other two shake out will largely depend on how Morgan performs during camp. It could sting if the former first-rounder can't find a spot in the starting rotation heading into Year 2.

2) The Packers spoke confidently about their secondary pieces following the release of Jaire Alexander -- who swiftly signed in Baltimore -- following an elongated contract standoff. Keisean Nixon sits as the No. 1 corner. Veteran addition Nate Hobbs could play inside or outside – where he slots is one thing to watch during camp. Carrington Valentine took a stride forward in Year 2 at a position known for unpredictability from year to year. How Jeff Hafley utilizes his safeties could determine the pecking order at corner. Opposite Xavier McKinney, we could see a battle between Evan Williams and Javon Bullard. Bullard could be a movable chess piece who can drop down to play nickel. Hafley will get his best five DBs on the field each week, and who plays more could depend on matchups. How the backup crew sorts itself out will be determined during camp.

3) What would a Packers training camp discussion be without talking about the receiver room? The addition of first-round pick Matthew Golden injects playmaking into a group that had a trove of B+ players but couldn't find consistency -- or stay healthy -- in 2024. Jayden Reed has proven he can win consistently from the slot, but is coming off a drop-filled season. Romeo Doubs also had a rocky campaign, playing just 13 games. Christian Watson hasn't been able to stay healthy, but is ahead of schedule in his return from an ACL tear. If he's able to avoid starting the season on the PUP list, it would make the Packers' receiver decision extremely interesting. Savion Williams, a third-round pick, is a wild card to carve out a role. Green Bay also brought in gadget speedster Mecole Hardman. Reed and Golden should be assured of their spots. The rest feels up in the air. Competition across the board is needed for a crew that disappointed last season and injected two rookies into the fray.
