NFL.com provides highlights and buzz below from Tuesday's training camps across the league.
Richardson first to start in Colts' QB competition
Anthony Richardson is first in line to audition for the Colts' top job under center this season.
The former fourth-overall pick of the 2023 draft will start in Indianapolis' Thursday preseason opener against the Ravens, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters on Tuesday. Daniel Jones will receive the same opportunity on Aug. 16 against the Packers, Steichen added.
The Colts' quarterback competition is far from decided as preseason action begins, with neither Richardson or Jones gaining significant ground on the other. Both have enjoyed their bright moments, but have also endured struggles during camp.
From the perspective of long-term planning, it would behoove the Colts if Richardson took a commanding lead in the battle and proved he can be the franchise signal-caller Indianapolis believed it was selecting two years ago. He's yet to do so in 2025 but also earned positive remarks from Steichen last week.
Jones' case, meanwhile, was built around the idea of competition and pushing Richardson to move closer toward fulfilling his potential, with the allure of Jones potentially improving under the direction of Steichen lurking as a possible pleasant surprise.
Both should be expected to receive significant snaps in the Colts' first two preseason games, which will factor significantly into determining the outcome of this competition. That process begins Thursday in Baltimore at 7 p.m. ET on NFL Network.

Shedeur to start Browns' preseason opener
The Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition has produced a surprise result entering its first preseason game.
Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders will start under center for the Browns in their preseason opener at Carolina on Friday, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported.
Sanders has consistently landed last in Cleveland's four-quarterback carousel during camp, but hamstring issues for both Kenny Pickett and third-round rookie Dillon Gabriel have moved Sanders up the depth chart. With 40-year-old Joe Flacco owning the lead in the battle for the Browns' top job, Cleveland understandably won't insert Flacco into preseason action and instead will turn to the fifth-round pick in what will be his first test in the NFL.
Cleveland also signed veteran Tyler Huntley on Tuesday to give them another option under center with Pickett and Gabriel still working their way back from injury.
The Browns kick off against the Panthers on Friday at 7 p.m. ET on NFL Network.

Chubb drawing encouraging reviews at Texans camp
Nick Chubb's move to Houston became more important when the Texans learned they'd be without Joe Mixon for a while due to a foot injury.
One question remained, though: What does Chubb have left in the tank?
Coach DeMeco Ryans delivered an encouraging review on Tuesday.
"Nick has been consistent. He's done a really good job," Ryans told reporters. "I see a very physical runner when he has the football in his hand. He does a really nice job in protection schemes and of staying square, picking up the blitzes from the defenders. He's just all around solid, consistent. He's gotten better every day that he's been here."
Chubb never quite looked like himself in 2024 with the Browns after returning from a significant knee injury, and a foot injury ended his campaign prematurely, leaving evaluators with an inadequate sample size. Those in attendance at Texans camp have seen signs of improvement, however, and the tone of Ryans' response suggests he'd agree.

Bears get physical in turned-up Tuesday practice
Ahead of Tuesday's training camp session in Lake Forest, Illinois, first-year Bears head coach Ben Johnson told reporters things would get dialed up a notch with a "good, physical practice."
Johnson wasn't kidding, as his comments were followed by what myriad local reporters referred to as one of the most physical Bears practices they had ever witnessed.
Tuesday's session featured multiple fights between teammates and an abundance of live tackling, even during 7-on-7 work.
The hard-hitting affair was appreciated by Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson.
"I feel like that's what we should practice like every day," Stevenson said, per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.
After the donnybrook-filled session, the Bears will be off Wednesday and then they'll be "on to Miami," per Johnson, as Chicago is set to host the Dolphins in both teams' preseason opener Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on NFL Network.
"That's what Ben is about, basically everything being what it's gonna be on Sundays, Thursdays and Mondays," Caleb Williams said Tuesday on NFL Network's Inside Training Camp Live. "Going out there and practicing, getting after it and actually practicing like it's a game is where we're striving to be at every single practice. When you get out to the game, it just makes it a little bit easier."
