Michael Coe injury has Giants' secondary hurting

It's not always how many injuries a team suffers that matters. It's how many they suffer at one particular position.

The Giants might be passing the point of no return at cornerback after their loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday night.

Potential starter Terrell Thomas is out for the season. His replacement Prince Amukamara was not available for the season opener. Third-round pick Jayron Hosley is getting back up to full strength. Amukamara's replacement Michael Coe got hurt in the second half Wednesday night, forcing Justin Tryon into action. And that's when the Giants secondary really collapsed.

New York is also thin inside on the defensive line, which hurts the team's pass rush. That exposes the secondary even more. It's hard to win with No. 5 and No. 6 cornerbacks on the field against receivers like Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

The good news: This is hardly a death sentence for the Giants. They have a long wait until their next game against Tampa Bay, but need to come up with solutions. New York's secondary was very banged up to start last season too, and that worked out pretty well.
