Tennessee Titans' Jake Locker shows stuff vs. Saints

Friday night brought a closer look at Jake Locker's role in Tennessee's newfangled offense.

After throwing just two passes against the Packers last week, the Titans quarterback came out of the gate firing against the New Orleans Saints.

Locker confidently marched the first team on a seven-play, 62-yard scoring drive that saw him complete 4 of 5 passes for 30 yards with a pretty touchdown strike to "Making the Leap" candidate Justin Hunter.

After what Ken Whisenhunt did for Philip Rivers in San Diego last season, we're already seeing the coach's fingerprints on Tennessee's young passer.

With Shonn Greene and Bishop Sankey set to split time in the Titans' backfield, Friday's action saw Dexter McCluster used in the same Danny Woodhead role that worked wonders with the Chargers last autumn. Locker successfully found the former Chiefs jitterbug on a pair of wheel routes in space -- we'll see that all year long.

Finishing 8 of 10 on the night, Locker spread the ball to five different targets for 75 yards over two drives that generated 10 points in just over a quarter of play.

Locker also saw a near interception float through the hands of Saints cover man Corey White, but the young passer extended plays with his feet, escaped tacklers and showed more patience.

After what little we saw last week, not a bad second act for a quarterback under pressure to deliver in 2014.
