What you need to know about the Week 1 injury report

We cover injury news throughout the day on Around The League. And then we collect all the injury report news, big and small, in the Internet's most popular injury roundup you wouldn't want to challenge to an arm wrestling match.

1. After an offseason of questions, we're still not sure whether New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul will play through his back injury in the opener Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys. The plan was for him to travel to Dallas and be a game-time decision. Per NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport, JPP did travel, so we'll see at game time. Victor Cruz (heel) is probable.

2. The New York Jets listed Santonio Holmes as questionable after he practiced on a limited basis this week because of his foot injury. He might be available in a limited role against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It would be fun to see the wide receiver lined up against his old practice foe Darrelle Revis. Quarterback Mark Sanchez (shoulder) and pass rusher Quinton Coples (ankle) are out, as expected. Defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis (back) is questionable.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback Blaine Gabbertofficially is questionable for Sunday's tilt with the Kansas City Chiefs, but he's tentatively expected to start despite his injured thumb. Tight end Marcedes Lewis is out with a calf injury.

4. Tennessee Titans starting tackle David Stewart missed practice for the second straight day with a calf injury. He is questionable for Sunday against Pittsburgh, but it doesn't look good.

5. Steelers tight end Heath Miller (knee) is officially doubtful for Sunday's game. It might be a good sign for his recovery that he's not just out.

6. Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak calls safety Ed Reed (hip) a "game-time decision" for the season opener Sunday in San Diego. 

7. The Miami Dolphins drafted cornerbacks Will Davis and Jamar Taylor in the second and third rounds of the 2013 draft to shore up their secondary. Both of them are unavailable for the season opener at Cleveland. Davis is out with a leg injury, and Taylor has an injured groin.

8. The Browns' top pick, Barkevious Mingo (bruised lung), is out against the Dolphins as expected.

9. The Chicago Bears didn't list anyone on their injury report. That means wide receiver Earl Bennett (concussion), linebacker D.J. Williams (calf) and defensive tackle Henry Melton (concussion) all will play against the Cincinnati Bengalson Sunday.

10. The Atlanta Falcons listed wide receiver Roddy White (ankle) as questionable, apparently out of habit. He's always listed as questionable -- and never has missed a game in his career. Cornerback Asante Samuel (thigh) also is questionable, but expected to play when the Falconsvisit New Orleans.

11. Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams (knee) is out for the season opener against the Lions. That means first-round pick Sharrif Floyd will start.

12. Bengals starting left tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) is out, per NFL.com's Stacey Dales. He will not travel to Chicago. That's not what you want to hear when readying to face the Bears' pass rush.

13. The Green Bay Packers will be thinner than usual in the secondary. Cornerback Casey Hayward (hamstring) is out and safety Morgan Burnett (hamstring) didn't practice Friday. He's questionable for the playoff rematch in San Francisco. 

14. San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (collarbone) is questionable for his debut against the defending NFC North champs.

15. New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (back, arm) didn't make the trip for the season opener against the Buffalo Bills, NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Saturday. Obviously, that means Gronk won't play.

16. The Lions have to be thrilled. Defensive end Ziggy Ansah (concussion) and safety Louis Delmas (knee) are ready to roll when they host the Vikingson Sunday. They are probable.

17. Bills safety Jairus Byrd (foot) is doubtful. There is some acrimony between the franchise player and the team. Quarterback EJ Manuel (knee) is probable and will start his first NFL game against the Patriots.

18. The Oakland Raiders are down to the fourth left tackle in the last month. Rookie Menelik Watson (knee) is out. Khalif Barnes will start there, with Tony Pashos at right tackle when they take on the Coltsthis Sunday.

19. Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll announced that defensive end Cliff Avril (hamstring) and cornerback Brandon Browner (hamstring) are game-time decisions. But Avril is doubtful and Browner is questionable. Seattle is on upset alert in Carolina.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers guard Carl Nicks (foot) is out against the Jets, as expected. He could miss the entire month.

21. Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer (knee) is doubtful. He didn't practice all week, so we wouldn't expect to see him against the Giants.

22. San Diego Chargers linebacker Manti Te'o (foot) didn't practice Saturday. He's out for Monday night against the Texans.
